Roll Call Lets Readers Pick Final Campaign Trips

Washington, D.C. (Sept. 15, 2014) – CQ Roll Call announced today that readers will be able to select the final destinations for Roll Call reporters to travel for “Roll Call on the Road,” an unprecedented effort to cover the midterm elections from the ground. So far this year, Roll Call has posted 57 stories from outside the Beltway, including coverage of 24 of the election cycle’s most competitive and interesting congressional races.

The “At the Races” blog is running an online survey this week, allowing readers to send staff writer Alexis Levinson to cover a Senate race in one of the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota or North Carolina. Readers will also be able to pick where staff writer Emily Cahn travels to cover one of these House races: California’s 52nd District, Colorado’s 6th District, Nebraska’s 2nd District, New Jersey’s 3rd District, New York’s 11th District, Minnesota’s 8th District, or their own suggestion.

“One of the best things about our politics coverage is when we travel to cover campaigns from the ground, and now we get to share part of this experience with our readers,” said Shira T. Center, politics editor for Roll Call. “All of these races are important, but we can’t get to each place, so we came up with an innovative way to decide.”

“I was thrilled when Shira came to me with this idea. I can’t think of a better way to really get voters involved than to ask them what they’d like to know most,” added Roll Call Editor-in-Chief Christina Bellantoni. “It’s innovative and fun, and I’m excited to find out which states our readers choose.”

Readers will be able to vote for their favorite races through 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19.  Finalists will be announced on Monday, Sept. 22 and with a runoff for the final decision that week. Readers are encouraged to share their thoughts about the races we should cover or tell us a race we missed by tweeting @RollCall using the hashtag #RCReadersChoice or emailing
