Keynotes, Panelists Announced for Future of Foreign Aid Event

Washington, D.C. (Mar. 24, 2015) – CQ Roll Call announced today that Rep. Gerald Connolly (D-Va.) and Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb) will give the keynote addresses at the event, Building Self-Reliance: The Future of Foreign Aid at the Columbus Club at Union Station on Wednesday, Mar. 25 at 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Oxfam America.

“America is the most generous country in the world, reflecting both our interests and our value,” said Gregory Adams, Director of Aid Effectiveness at Oxfam America. “But Americans often ask, is our aid making a difference?  How do we make sure our aid gets to the people who need it and leads to real change?  How do we make sure it’s not wasted or stolen?  Community leaders in developing countries are in fact asking the same questions. They speak up, often at great risk, to demand that development dollars deliver results.  We’re excited to join CQ Roll Call to discuss how our aid dollars can support such local heroes to deliver lasting change.”

The keynote remarks will be followed by a panel moderated by Jennifer Koons, defense and foreign policy editor for CQ Roll Call, with Jacqueline Musiitwa, Esq. of the Hoja Law Group in Kenya, Gyan Mani Nepal, an education officer in Nepal, Lindsay Coates, acting president and CEO of InterAction and Noam Unger, acting deputy assistant administrator and director of Office of Policy in the Bureau of Policy, Planning and Learning at USAID.

“We’re pleased to build upon the long standing CQ Roll Call – Oxfam partnership to produce a live event focused on this pressing and important topic,” said Beth Bronder, Senior Vice President and Publisher of CQ Roll Call. “We look forward to facilitating a lively discussion on the role of US foreign aid and how best to ensure its effectiveness now and in the future.”
