CQ Roll Call Names Kris Viesselman to Senior Leadership Position
Viesselman, who has held editorial, creative and product leadership roles at National Geographic, the Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune, joins the CQ Roll Call team on Monday.
“I’m thrilled to be joining CQ Roll Call at this important time in American politics. The newsrooms are uniquely positioned and sourced to explain the story of Washington to the world,” Viesselman said. “We have great ambitions for growing the respected media brands – and making sure coverage finds people on all kinds of devices.”
Viesselman was part of three Pulitzer Prizes. At the Sacramento Bee, her work was included in entries that won the public service and beat reporting awards. At the L.A. Times, she helped produce the winning journalism in the spot news category.
Innovative visual storytelling has been at the core of her work, across print and digital platforms, as well as television and film.
“Kris is a visionary who will take our data visualization, information graphics and video storytelling to new levels,” said David Ellis, Chief Content Officer and Senior Vice President.
She brings to CQ Roll Call her creative thinking and a history of successful product launches, growing the impact of several media properties in her more than two decades in journalism. Viesselman, who will have responsibilities in both the newsroom and product, will report to Matt Mansfield, Vice President of Product Innovation.
“Kris is a deeply talented journalist and a top-notch problem-solver. I have seen her create exciting new products that score big with readers and advertisers,” Mansfield said. “She is uniquely qualified to envision ideas that will better serve our audiences, wherever they may be.”
She and her teams have also been awarded numerous visual journalism awards from the Society for News Design and the Malofiej international information graphics competition, as well as the Emmys for television and POYi for documentary photojournalism.
