CQ Roll Call Launches New Defense Blog

Washington, D.C. (June 9, 2014) – CQ Roll Call announced today the launch of Five By Five, clear signals from the CQ Roll Call defense team. The second in a series of Policy Pulse blogs being introduced on Roll Call, Five By Five will be run by longtime national security reporter Tim Starks.

“At Five By Five, we’ll be covering what’s going on from the Pentagon to Capitol Hill, from the physical world of industry and technology to the abstract world of think tanks,” says Starks. “Our focus will be defense, but we’ll also delve into other aspects of national security. And we’ll draw on CQ Roll Call’s excellent defense and foreign policy team along the way. The goal is to produce a blog that is engaging, provocative and essential.”

Starks has been reporting on national security at CQ for the 11 years, covering homeland security, intelligence and most recently foreign policy. He won the National Press Club’s Sandy Hume Memorial Award for Excellence in Political Journalism in 2009 for a CQ Weekly cover story on congressional secrecy. No stranger to the blogosphere, Starks’ boxing blog, “The Queensberry Rules,” made Time’s list of the top 25 overall blogs of 2013.

The Policy Pulse blogs on RollCall.com cover specific policy communities in Washington. Each will be a smart, policy-focused forum for exchanging ideas and staying abreast of news developments and grassroots initiatives. The first, Technocrat, launched in May and has quickly gained an audience, growing by more than 64% in its first month.
