CQ Roll Call Acquires Federal News Service

Washington, D.C. (Dec. 1, 2014) – CQ Roll Call announced today the acquisition of the Federal News Service (FNS) business from The Dolan Company. The acquisition will allow CQ Roll Call to bring more verbatim transcripts to the market, expanding the existing transcription services, strengthening the company’s position as the premier source for real-time information and insight on the most newsworthy events in Washington, D.C.

“There are primary sources of information that have not yet been digitized, not yet made available to those who are serious about understanding and influencing policy formation, ” said CQ Roll Call Executive Vice President and Managing Director Keith White. “This acquisition will allow us to expand that body of coverage, giving the world increased access to what policy makers say as they vote, amend, argue and more. And this would not have been possible without our long-term partners, ASC.”

With the addition of the FNS transcription products, CQ Roll Call will cover more speeches, hearings, interviews and newsworthy events than ever. On-demand transcription services also will be expanded, solidifying CQ Roll Call’s position in Washington as the best source for quick and accurate transcripts for every type of event. Current FNS clients will see no interruption in coverage, as CQ Roll Call will maintain the FNS websites along with all currently available information.

“As the 114th Congress begins, existing FNS subscribers will be invited to enjoy the enhanced services of CQ.com,” said Meg Hargreaves, CQ Roll Call’s Chief Client Officer. “This includes broader event coverage, the industry’s most in-depth news and analysis, robust congressional schedules, custom alerting, email updates, and access to CQ Roll Call’s exclusive client webinars and live events.”

“The divestiture of FNS enables The Dolan Company to focus on the growth of its strategic businesses while providing CQ Roll Call expansion opportunities in the on-demand transcription market,” said Mark McEachen, The Dolan Company’s Chief Executive Officer. “We believe the business has potential for long term value being led by CQ Roll Call who will bring a focused approach to this market.”

FNS was founded in 1985 and purchased by The Dolan Company in 2010.
