Washington (Feb. 1) – CQ Roll Call, an Economist Group business, today announced that award-winning journalist Marcia Myers is joining its newsroom as the new Editor of CQ magazine.
“Marcia will help bring new depth to our already authoritative reports on how Congress, the federal government and the states deal with pressing national issues,’’ said Steve Komarow, CQ Roll Call’s Vice President and News Director. “Her investigative chops stand apart even in a town of thousands of quality journalists.’’
Myers most recently was Senior Investigations Editor for Scripps News, where she helped lead reporters to a George Foster Peabody award for uncovering a loophole that allowed military sex offenders to avoid being listed on public registries. The stories led to a new law that requires the offenders to register upon conviction or before they are released from jail.
Prior to joining Scripps, Myers was Projects/Investigations Editor for Bloomberg News in London, focusing on Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Her projects included a look at the sale of sophisticated surveillance equipment by Western companies to repressive governments, work that led to export bans and won the George Polk Award for International Reporting.
But Myers first came to national attention at the Baltimore Sun, where she rose from reporter to national editor to Director of Content Editing and Enterprise. Her teams won major recognition including the George Polk Award for Medical Reporting for an investigation into a dangerous blood coagulant used on wounded soldiers in Iraq. She oversaw coverage of Hurricane Katrina among other major events.
As a reporter, Myers has many of her own tales to tell, including slipping past tight security into the offices of Ken Starr, the special counsel who was investigating President Clinton and his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.
At CQ, Myers will lead the editors, reporters, researchers and graphics personnel who create its newly redesigned weekly print magazine, and will soon launch a refreshed and expanded digital presence. She’ll draw content from the largest reporting team on Capitol Hill.
Myers starts today, and reports to Komarow.
