National Children's Alliance

Description:
Without a Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), an abused child may end up having to tell the worst story of his or her life over and over, to doctors, police, lawyers, and others. They might think they’re in trouble, or a well-meaning adult may ask leading questions that could hurt the case against the abuser. With a CAC—a safe, child-focused environment—he or she tells the story once to a trained interviewer. Then, a team of law enforcement, mental health, victim advocacy, and other professionals make decisions together about how to help the child, offering therapy and other services.
