Elite Eight Finalists Announced in Taste of America 2015
Washington, D.C. (June 1, 2015) – CQ Roll Call announced today the Elite Eight finalists in the 2015 Taste of America competition. The Elite Eight foods are:
- Arizona Pork Chimichangas
- Florida Key Lime Pie
- Illinois Deep Dish Pizza
- Indiana Pork Tenderloin
- Maine Lobster Roll
- Maryland Crab Cakes
- Oregon Blackberry Pie
- Tennessee Memphis BBQ
Taste of America, a tournament-style food competition, pits state against state in an NCAA March Madness-like bracket. Now in its fifth year, Taste of America allows readers to vote with their taste buds and support their state. Readers will decide which of the Elite Eight foods will declare victory by voting online in the final round at rollcalltasteofamerica.com. Voting concludes on June 5.
The Elite Eight foods will be honored at a reception prior to Roll Call’s Congressional Baseball Game on June 11 at Nationals Park, where the winner will be announced.
“We’ve seen some strong match ups in this year’s competition,” says CQ Roll Call’s Publisher, Beth Bronder. “The final round came down to the wire for a number of states and last-minute drives pushed some of our foods over the finish line.”
As part of the Elite Eight round, founding sponsor the National Beer Wholesalers Association has provided beer pairings for each food.
“Baseball and beer go hand in glove, so America’s beer distributors are excited to be part of the Taste of America competition once again this year,” said National Beer Wholesalers Association Senior Vice President Rebecca Spicer. “America’s 3,300 independent beer distributors take great pride delivering labels from thousands of brewers to consumers across the country. From lagers to lambics and pale ales to porters, there’s a perfect beer for every food.”
The National Beer Wholesalers Association, a founding sponsor, and the American Frozen Food Institute are this year’s Taste of America Sponsors.
Official rules: Brackets will feature 64 foods from across the country organized by region. States will play within their region. The Elite Eight will face off in the fourth and final round. The champion will be the state food that receives the most votes during the final round. The winner will be announced at a reception at Nationals Park on June 11, 2015.
