CQ Roll Call Launches Taste of America 2015

Washington, D.C. (May 4, 2015) – CQ Roll Call announced today the launch of Roll Call’s annual Taste of America competition. Taste of America, a tournament-style food competition, pits state against state in an NCAA March Madness-like bracket. Now in its fifth year, Taste of America allows readers to vote with their taste buds and support their state. Readers will decide which food reigns supreme by voting online for their state’s signature dish at rollcalltasteofamerica.com.

“The voting in this competition gets pretty heated between Capitol Hill offices,” says CQ Roll Call’s Publisher, Beth Bronder. “Each year, a few clear favorites emerge and dominate the final rounds.  Surprisingly, its never the biggest states that turn out the highest vote count.”

Utah’s cherry cobbler is the defending champion, with two Taste of America victories, in 2014 and 2012.

Voting will run through June 5 with four rounds of competition. The Elite Eight foods will be honored at a reception prior to the Congressional Baseball Game on June 11, where the winner will be announced.

Roll Call is celebrating 60 years of covering the Capitol Hill community and has been intimately involved with the Congressional Baseball Game since 1961. In its fifth year, Taste of America builds upon that tradition to celebrate the intersection of food, America’s favorite pastime and state pride.

“Baseball and beer go hand in glove, so America’s beer distributors are excited to be part of the Taste of America competition once again this year,” said National Beer Wholesalers Association Senior Vice President Rebecca Spicer. “America’s 3,300 independent beer distributors take great pride delivering labels from thousands of brewers to consumers across the country. From lagers to lambics and pale ales to porters, there’s a perfect beer for every food.”

The National Beer Wholesalers Association, a founding sponsor, and the American Frozen Food Institute are this year’s Taste of America Sponsors.

Official rules: Brackets will feature 64 foods from across the country organized by region. States will play within their region. The Elite Eight will face off in the fourth and final round. The champion will be the state food that receives the most votes during the final round. The winner will be announced at a reception at Nationals Park on June 11, 2015.
