WASHINGTON (Oct. 23, 2015) – CQ Roll Call, an Economist Group business, has named Gillian Roberts to lead a new data reporting and visualization team, CQ Roll Call Chief Content Officer David Ellis announced today.
Roberts will lead a team of reporters and graphic artists who, working with editors from both CQ News and Roll Call, will bring the company’s presentation of its data, much of it exclusive, to the next level on all its platforms.
“I’m thrilled to join a team dedicated to enriching the accurate, quality journalism that defines CQ Roll Call,’’ Roberts said. “I couldn’t be happier to collaborate with reporters and editors to bring the power of visual storytelling to our core audiences at CQ, Roll Call and CQ Weekly — and attract new followers as we grow.’’
As a breaking news editor at CQ Now, Roberts has authored the popular morning news briefing, the most-read newsletter in the CQ news stable. She’s also developed a keen sense of how Congress works and will bring that expertise to her new role.
‘’Gillian’s new team is just the latest example of a wave of positive change at our company,’’ Ellis said. “In just the past few days, the new CQ podcast made its debut on iTunes, we added new talent to our team covering Congress and named Melinda Henneberger the Editor-in-Chief of Roll Call — and there’s much more to come.’’
Roberts, a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, will lead a team that has already begun to distinguish CQ Roll Call journalism with unique ways of seeing information, including the upcoming annual survey of the wealth of lawmakers. Members of the team include data reporters Ryan Kelly, Randy Leonard and Sean McMinn.
She will report to Matt Mansfield, Vice President for Product Innovation.
“Gillian is a real pro who will bring excellent perspective to the stories we tell with CQ Roll Call’s unparalleled data sets,’’ Mansfield said.
